2012 NFL Power Rankings: Week 8

Little time this week so a half assed version here.

----------

1. (1) Houston Texans (6-1)

Week 7: Defeated Baltimore Ravens 43-13
Week 8: Bye

There was a reason I did not move the Texans out of the first spot after they were molly whopped by the Packers. Houston responded in a big way by destroying who many thought was the second best team in the AFC. Houston is focused right now and didn't let an ugly loss get the best of them.

----------

2. (3) Chicago Bears (5-1)

Week 7: Defeated Detroit Lions 13-7
Week 8: vs. Carolina Panthers (1-5)

The reason I moved Chicago in front of Atlanta is I am simply more impressed with the Bears right now. The defense is playing on another level and I think the offense has enough firepower to win if it has to. Chicago has allowed 71 points on the season. No other team has allowed less then 100. And yes, I know the Bears have not defeated anyone over .500. This league is all parity right now, the way they have won has been impressive, regardless of who they have played.

----------

3. (2) Atlanta Falcons (6-0)

Week 7: Bye
Week 8: @ Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)

The Falcons at 3 is hardly a slight on them. If they can continue to win like this they deserve to be the top ranked team. Atlanta is done with all of their AFC games, so for now on, it's the rough NFC every single week.
----------

4. (4) New York Giants (5-2)

Week 7: Defeated Washington Redskins 27-23
Week 8: @ Dallas Cowboys (3-3)

It never feels like the Giants are out of a game. Two miraculous comebacks against the Buccaneers and Redskins, and they now sit at 5-2. This passing game is pretty much impossible to stop, and it wouldn't be crazy to call Victor Cruz the best wideout in the NFL.

----------

5. (6) San Francisco 49ers (5-2)
Week 7: Defeated Seattle Seahawks 13-6
Week 8: @ Arizona Cardinals (4-3)

----------

6. (10) Green Bay Packers (4-3)
Week 7: Defeated St. Louis Rams 30-20
Week 8: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

----------

7. (5) Baltimore Ravens (5-2)
Week 7: Lost to Houston Texans 43-13
Week 8: Bye

----------

8. (8) New England Patriots (4-3)
Week 7: Defeated New York Jets 29-26
Week 8: @ St. Louis Rams (3-4)

----------

9. (11) Minnesota Vikings (5-2)
Week 7: Defeated Arizona Cardinals 21-14
Week 8: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-4)

----------

10. (9) Denver Broncos (3-3)
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: vs. New Orleans Saints (2-4)

----------

11. (7) Seattle Seahawks (4-3)
Week 7: Lost to San Francisco 49ers 13-6
Week 8: @ Detroit Lions

----------

12. (12) Dallas Cowboys (3-3)
Week 7: Defeated Carolina Panthers 19-14
Week 8: vs. New York Giants (5-2)

----------

13. (13) Miami Dolphins (3-3)
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: @ New York Jets

----------

14. (17) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3)
Week 7: Defeated Cincinnati Bengals 24-17
Week 8: vs. Washington Redskins (3-4)

The Steelers are limping through the season but if they can tread water they actually have a great chance at a first round bye once some of their injured players come back. That is how wide open the AFC is.

---------

15. (16) San Diego Chargers (3-3)
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: @ Cleveland Browns (1-6)

----------

16. (14) St. Louis Rams (3-4)
Week 7: Lost to Green Bay Packers 30-20
Week 8: vs. New England Patriots

----------

17. (18) Washington Redskins (3-4)
Week 7: Lost to New York Giants 27-23
Week 8: @ Pittsburgh Steelers

----------

18. (21) New York Jets (3-4)
Week 7: Lost to New England Patriots 29-26
Week 8: vs. Miami Dolphins (3-3)

----------

19. (20) Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: vs. Atlanta Falcons (6-0)

----------

20. (15) Arizona Cardinals (4-3)
Week 7: Lost to Minnesota Vikings 21-14
Week 8: vs. San Francisco 49ers (5-2)

----------

21. (25) New Orleans Saints (2-4)
Week 7: Defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-28
Week 8: @ Denver Broncos (3-3)

----------
22. (19) Cincinnati Bengals (3-4)
Week 7: Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers 24-17
Week 8: Bye

----------

23. (22) Detroit Lions (2-4)
Week 7: Lost to Chicago Bears 13-7
Week 8: vs. Seattle Seahawks (4-3)

----------

24. (23) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-4)
Week 7: Lost to New Orleans Saints 35-28
Week 8: @ Minnesota Vikings (5-2)

----------

25. (26) Indianapolis Colts (3-3)
Week 7: Defeated Cleveland Browns 17-13
Week 8: @ Tennessee Titans (3-4)

----------

26. (27) Oakland Raiders (2-4)

Week 7: Defeated Jacksonville Jaguars 26-23
Week 8: @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-5)

Another week, another terrible performance by Darren McFadden. The Raiders might as well trade him if they are going to completely misuse him every week. I hate when a coaching staff comes in and tries to force a round peg into a square hole. But that's why the Raiders are 2-4.

----------

27. (29) Tennessee Titans (3-4)

Week 7: Defeated Buffalo Bills 35-34
Week 8: vs. Indianapolis Colts (3-3)

Is Chris Johnson back? He is on pace for 1134 yards and a 4.5 average. Those are pretty good numbers considering he has three absolute stinkers this year. More troubling for the Titans is a defense that can't stop anyone. However, 8-8 may be good enough to earn a playoff spot in the AFC this year, and the Titans have some easy games remaining. It could possibly happen for them.

----------

28. (24) Buffalo Bills (3-4)

Week 7: Lost to Tennessee Titans 35-34
Week 8: Bye

Is Mario Williams even still in the league? What a useless signing that was, as is usually the case when good players take monster money from bad teams (see: Albert Haynesworth). Fantays players, make sure to start running backs playing the pathetic Bills defense for the remainder of the season.

----------

29. (28) Cleveland Browns (1-6)

Week 7: Lost to Indianapolis Colts 17-13
Week 8: vs. San Diego Chargers (3-3)

The Browns always seem to do just enough to lose ballgames. Brandon Weeden has been pretty good recently, but of course Trent Richardson stinks up the joint and Cleveland can only muster 13 points against a weak Colts defense.
----------

30. (30) Carolina Panthers (1-5)

Week 7: Lost to Dallas Cowboys 19-14
Week 8: @ Chicago Bears

Unlike most, I do not really have a problem with Cam Newton's comments following the game. Cam is to blame, but I put most of the blame on the coaching staff. Since Ron Rivera came to town this team has been pass first even though they have two very highly paid running backs and a quarterback who is still very raw. The General Manager lost his job and Rivera really needs to be next.

----------

31. (31) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)

Week 7: Lost to Oakland Raiders 26-23
Week 8: @ Green Bay Packers (4-3)

The Jaguars are probably the least talented team in the NFL. I am really shocked that Gene Smith still has a job. The defense in particular is just so overmatched every week. Things got even tougher for Jacksonville as it looks like Blaine Gabbert and Maurice Jones-Drew will both be out for a while.

----------

32. (32) Kansas City Chiefs (1-5)

Week 7: Bye
Week 8: vs. Oakland Raiders

Could you imagine having to choose between Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn? Why did Scott Pioli let Kyle Orton go again? Yet another GM that has no business still being employed, and probably won't be for much longer.
