2013 NBA Draft Early Entrants List

This page will be updated every time someone declares from now until the deadline, which is on April 28. However, thanks to more kooky NCAA rules, a player has to declare by April 16 to be eligible to return to college. So expect to hear a lot of names in the up coming days.

Updated: April 10, 2013

----------

SG Victor Oladipo, Jr, Indiana
6'5, 215 lbs
Hometown: Upper Marlboro, MD
2012-2013 Stats: 13.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.1 apg

I seem to be in the minority, but I think Oladipo is the best guard in this draft, and I would select him over Ben McLemore. People always tend to cry blasphemy any time a Michael Jordan comparison is thrown out, but it does make some sense. Oladipo is strong, quick and has lock down potential on defense. He is also a strong scorer who can get to the rim and shoots a very high percentage. If he improves his jump shot, he has a chance to be one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. I have had him as the top pick in my draft recently, thanks to his great all around game.

Projected draft range: Top five.

----------

SF, PF Anthony Bennett, Fr, UNLV
6'8, 240 lbs
Hometown: Brampton, Ontario, Canada
2012-2013 Stats: 16.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.2 bpg

Bennett came on strong during his freshman season, showing explosiveness and an ability to score on anyone. He slowed down a bit late in the season but was still one of the best players in college basketball. If he was two inches taller he would be the number one pick. He still could, though recent highly drafted tweeners like Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams have not fared too well in the NBA. Bennett has a better power game then those two players and should be able to hold down the four spot in the NBA. He is a lock for the top ten, and could go in the top five.

Projected draft range: Top ten.

----------

SG/SF Shabazz Muhammad, Fr, UCLA
6'6, 225 lbs
Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
2012-2013 Stats: 17.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 0.8 apg

While Muhammad's stats look pretty good, he definitely had a disappointing lone year in Los Angeles. He did not do much for the Bruins other then score, and he wasn't terribly efficient at doing that. I think once he gets into an NBA rotation he won't be such a one dimensional ball hog, but it is troubling when you can't even average an assist per game. Then of course there is the news that he is actually a year older then thought. That will make scouts wonder how much his high school numbers were inflated playing against kids a year younger then him. Still, I think he is a pretty safe bet to eventually be a 20 point per game scorer in the NBA, and he should still be taken in the top ten.

Projected draft range: Top ten.

----------

PF/C Rudy Gobert, France
7'1, 235 lbs
Hometown: Saint-Quentin, France
2012-2013 Stats: 8.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.9 bpg

Gobert has been brought along slowly by his Euro team, but shows intriguing ability. He is a good shot blocker and a decent rebounder, but is still very skinny and likely a couple years away from being an productive NBA player. Still, this is a very bad draft and he offers size and athleticism, and those two things should get him drafted in the late teens or early 20's.

Projected draft range: Mid to late first round.

----------

C Steven Adams, Fr, Pittsburgh
7'0, 250 lbs
Hometown: Rotura, New Zealand
2012-2013 Stats: 7.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.0 bpg

Adams originally declared he was returning to Pittsburgh for his sophomore season, but recently flip flopped and will be entering the draft. He was slow to adjust to the college game after coming over from New Zealand and will likely face a very steep learning curve once he gets to the NBA. He will be a big time project that will take a few years to develop. However, he has good size and strength and is already a strong rebounder and shot blocker. If Fab Melo can go in the mid first round, Adams should find his name called around the same spot this year.

Projected draft range: Mid to late first round.

----------

SG Archie Goodwin, Fr, Kentucky
6'4, 198 lbs
Hometown: Little Rock, AR
2012-2013 Stats: 14.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.7 apg

Goodwin started off hot and was considered a potential lottery pick, but really fell off as the season went along. He is an undersized shooting guard who had a lot of trouble shooting. He is a decent ball handler and is good at getting to the rim, so he could make it as a point guard. This was the time for him to go, as he would have had to fight for minutes with much better players and had to enter a much better draft. He is still probably a first round pick, but will go late in round one and will have to work hard to earn minutes.

Projected draft range: Late first round.

----------

SG Allen Crabbe, Jr, California
6'6, 210 lbs
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
2012-2013 Stats: 18.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.6 apg

Crabbe capped off a very good three year college career by winning the Pac 12 player of the year award and helping the Golden Bears win a tournament game. Unfortunately for him most of the nation got to see him pout on a national stage in a loss to the Orange. He is a good shooter with nice size who will hope to carve out a role as a backup wing player. The NBA lacks good two guards, and especially those who can shoot, so he should be drafted late in the first round or early in the second.

Projected draft range: Late first round, early second.

----------

SF Deshaun Thomas, Jr, Ohio State
6'7, 225 lbs
Hometown: Fort Wayne, IN
2012-2013 Stats: 19.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.3 apg

Thomas looks like a 40 year old man at the YMCA and is allergic to defense, but he is a heck of a scorer. He is a good shooter and very strong. Scouts would like to see him do something else to ensure he is a first round pick, but if he does fall into the second round, I do not think he will last very long.

Projected draft range: Late first round, early second.

----------

SG/SF Sergey Karasev, Russia
6'7, 205 lbs
Hometown: St. Petersburg, Russia
2012-2013 Stats: 16.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.4 apg

Karasev is still very young for a Euro prospect (19) but played a pretty big role for his Eurocup team. He is a good shooter and solid ball handler. He is most likely a couple of years away from joining the NBA, but will be one of the most popular "draft and stash" prospects.

Projected draft range: Late first, early second.

----------

PG Lorenzo Brown, Jr, North Carolina State
6'5, 185 lbs
Hometown: Roswell, GA
2012-2013 Stats: 12.4 ppg, 7.3 apg, 4.3 rpg

Like the rest of the Wolfpack, Brown had a very disappointing year. He was unable to build upon a promising sophomore season. He really struggled as a shooter, and may have to work years to improve that part of his game. He has some Jason Kidd like qualities, in that he is tall and a good rebounder, and could make it as a starter if he can improve his game. He should be drafted in the 20's or early in the second round with so many teams in need of point guard help.

Projected draft range: Late first, early second.

----------

SF/PF CJ Leslie, Jr, North Carolina State
6'9, 200 lbs
Hometown: Holly Springs, NC
2012-2013 Stats: 15.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.5 apg

Leslie did not really build on his sophomore season, but he still played pretty well as a junior. If he hopes to make it in the NBA, it will be as an athletic rebounder and shot blocker off the bench. Leslie is your classic tweener. He has worked hard on his jump shot but still has more of a power forward's game. But at 200 pounds he would get pushed around in the NBA. He has a good chance to carve out a decent NBA career as a backup.

Projected draft range: Late first, early second.

----------

SF/PF Tony Mitchell, So, North Texas
6'8, 235 lbs
Hometown: Dallas, TX
2012-2013 Stats: 13.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.7 bpg

Mitchell came into the season with plenty of top five hype. As a freshman he showed great explosiveness, shot blocking and rebounding ability. This past season he regressed in pretty much every category and his North Texas team crawled to a 12-20 record. A mid major team who has a player as talented as Mitchell should never struggle like that, and as a result, Mitchell's stock has fallen hard. To the point where he will have to put on a show during pre draft workouts to work his way back into the first round. At his best he is reminiscent of a young Josh Smith, but there will be a lot of questions he has to answer, mostly about desire and determination.

Projected draft range: Late first, early second.

----------

PG/SG BJ Young, So, Arkansas
6'3, 175 lbs
Hometown: St. Louis, MO
2012-2013 Stats: 15.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.4 apg

I had Young as a possible lottery pick coming into the year, but he regressed in pretty much every area. A good shooter as a freshman, his percentages took a dive this past season, as he hit only 22% of his 3 point attempts. Young finished the year coming off the bench for the Razorbacks. He has good ball handling skills and nice athleticism, but he will have to prove himself, most likely as a second round pick.

Projected draft range: Second round.

----------

SG Ricardo Ledo, Fr, Providence
6'6, 195 lbs
Hometown: Barrington, RI
2012-2013 Stats: DNP

Ledo was forced to sit out his freshman year for Providence and decided to enter the NBA draft instead of wrestling with the NCAA further. He received some first round chatter before the season started due to his scoring potential and ability to handle the ball. A year away from organized ball will probably hurt him, as will his attitude, but he is still a solid second round pick who could end up being a steal.

Projected draft range: Second round.

----------

SG/SF Tony Snell, Jr, New Mexico
6'7, 200 lbs
Hometown: Riverside, CA
2012-2013 Stats: 12.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.9 apg

Snell looks the part of your classic NBA swing man. He is tall, lanky and a great athlete. His jump shot is inconsistent, however, and he is not much of a defender. With good workouts there is a chance he can crack the first round, but I think he will be more of a mid second round pick. He should be able to make a team and be a solid contributor off the bench in time, however.

Projected draft range: Second round.

----------

SF/PF Adonis Thomas, So, Memphis
6'7, 240 lbs
Hometown: Memphis, TN
2012-2013 stats: 11.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.9 apg

Thomas was a top recruit but never quite developed his two years in Memphis. He is strong and athletic, but lacks a position and does not have a ton of NBA skills. A team could take him late in the second round in hopes they can groom him into a useful NBA player.

Projected draft range: Late second, undrafted.

----------

PG/SG Russ Smith, Jr, Louisville
6'1, 165 lbs
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
2012-2013 Stats: 18.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.9 apg

Russ Smith went from a bench warmer his freshman season to one of the best players in college basketball as a junior. He helped Louisville win a national title with scoring, toughness and leadership. However, he is 165 pounds soaking wet and does not exhibit any point guard skills. He is a good scorer but does not shoot a good percentage. Some team may draft him late in the second round due to pedigree, but I do not see any way he makes it as an NBA player. For every Allen Iverson there are 100 college players like him who do not make it.

Projected draft range: Late second, undrafted.

----------
PF Eric Moreland, Jr, Oregon State
6'10, 215 lbs
Hometown: Missouri City, TX
2012-2013 Stats: 9.4 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 2.5 bpg

Moreland was a good shot blocker and rebounder for the Beavers this past season, but NBA teams aren't fans of skinny, weak big men unless they can do more then block an occasional shot. Moreland could be drafted, but he will have a lot of work to do to on his body if he ever wants to be a part of an NBA rotation.

Projected draft range: Late second, undrafted.

----------

SG Isaiah Sykes, Jr, UCF
6'5, 215 lbs
Hometown: Detroit, MI
2012-2013 Stats: 16.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.5 apg

Sykes is a productive college player, but lacks what appeals to NBA teams. He is not a good shooter and turns the ball over too much. Still, he has nice size and a decent all around game. He will most likely be undrafted and have to work his way onto an NBA roster, but there is a chance he will be drafted late in the second round.

Projected draft range: Late second, undrafted.

----------

SF/PF Marshawn Powell, Jr, Arkansas
6'7, 240 lbs
Hometown: Newport News, VA
2012-2013 Stats: 14.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg

Powell has been a good scorer during his Razorbacks career, but he is your classic tweener. Too short for power forward, to slow for small forward. Couple that with an injury history, and he probably goes undrafted. He is talented enough to perhaps catch on as an undrafted free agent.

Projected draft range: Undrafted.

----------

SF Amath M'Baye, Jr, Oklahoma
6'9, 208 lbs
Hometown: Bordeaux, France
2012-2013 Stats: 10.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 0.8 apg

M'Baye was a solid rotational big man for the Sooners, but at the age of 23 he has decided to move on from college basketball. He has no chance to be drafted or play in the NBA, but could carve out a role overseas.

Projected draft range: Undrafted.

----------

SF/PF CJ Aiken, Jr, St. Joseph's
6'9, 201 lbs
Hometown: Conshohocken, PA
2012-2013 Stats: 10.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.6 bpg

Aiken is athletic and a pretty good shot blocker, but he is woefully thin and would get abused badly at the NBA level. He won't be drafted and will likely have to forge a career in Europe.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted.
