2013 NFL Power Rankings: Week 3

This week has been Grand Theft Auto V week, so I have not had much time. So some short commentary on about half of the teams.
-----

1. Seattle Seahawks (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 2
Week 2 Result: Defeated San Francisco 49ers 29-3
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Seahawks have the best home field advantage in the NFL, if not all of professional sports. If they can secure home field throughout the NFC Playoffs, they will be extremely tough to beat.

-----

2. Denver Broncos (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 1
Week 2 Result: Defeated New York Giants 41-23
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Oakland Raiders (1-1)

Yawn. 307 yards and 2 touchdowns. How un Peyton Manning like. Fantasy Manning owners, expect more of the same as he gets to beat up the bad secondaries of Oakland, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Washington in upcoming weeks. Ryan Clady is lost for the season however, and that is a HUGE Loss.

-----

3. San Francisco 49ers (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 3
Week 2 Result: Lost to Seattle Seahawks 29-3
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

The 49ers ran into the Seattle Seahawks buzzsaw in Washington State, where Seattle is nearly unbeatable. I would not look too much into that loss. The Niners will bounce back and are still a top three team.

-----

4. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 12
Week 2 Result: Defeated Washington Redskind 38-20
Week 3 Matchup: @ Cincinnati Bengals

The Packers have their fair share of question marks, but so does nearly every team in the NFL. The fact remains that the passing attack is lethal, and the defense is good enough to bend but not break most of the time.

-----

5. Houston Texans (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 6
Week 2 Result: Defeated Tennessee Titans 30-24
Week 3 Matchup: @ Baltimore Ravens (1-1)

-----

6. Chicago Bears (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 5
Week 2 Result: Defeated Minnesota Vikings 31-30
Week 3 Matchup: @ Pittsburgh Steelers

-----

7. New Orleans Saints (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 7
Week 2 Result: Defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-14
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)

-----

8. Cincinnati Bengals (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 10
Week 2 Result: Defeated Pittsburgh Steelers 20-10
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Green Bay Packers

I know I have said this before, but it was even more apparent Monday night; Andy Dalton is not a Super Bowl caliber quarterback and might be the only thing that holds this team back from greatness. He was inaccurate on most of his long passes, especially to AJ Green. He reminds me of Chad Pennington. A smart quarterback who simply lacks the talent to be great.

-----

9. Baltimore Ravens (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 9
Week 2 Result: Defeated Cleveland Browns 14-6
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Houston Texans (2-0)

-----

10. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 8
Week 2 Result: Defeated St. Louis Rams 31-24
Week 3 Matchup: @ Miami Dolphins (2-0)

-----

11. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 13
Week 2 Result: Defeated Dallas Cowboys 17-16
Week 3 Matchup: @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

-----

12. Miami Dolphins (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 15
Week 2 Result: Defeated Indianapolis Colts 24-20
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

The Dolphins are playing very well on both sides of the ball right now. Miami's front seven continues to be one of the best in football and the secondary is actually making plays. On offense, Ryan Tannehill has made all the throws and gotten every offensive player involved. Things will get much tougher with the Falcons and Saints coming up.

-----
13. New England Patriots (2-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 4
Week 2 Result: Defeated New York Jets 13-10
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I gave the Patriots the benifit of the doubt after week one, but a lack of skill players are starting to become a major problem for the Patriots. This offense lacks any type of explosiveness in the passing game. Rob Gronkowski cannot come back quick enough. Fortunately they are 2-0 as they work through these issues.

-----

14. St. Louis Rams (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 11
Week 2 Result: Lost to Atlanta Falcons 31-24
Week 3 Matchup: @ Dallas Cowboys (1-1)

-----

15. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 14
Week 2 Result: Lost to Kansas City Chiefs 17-16
Week 3 Matchup: vs. St. Louis Rams (1-1)

-----

16. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 19
Week 2 Result: Defeated Detroit Lions 25-21
Week 3 Matchup: @ New Orleans Saints (2-0)

-----

17. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 16
Week 2 Result: Lost to Philadelphia Eagles 33-30
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)

-----

18. Detroit Lions (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 18
Week 2 Result: Lost to Arizona Cardinals 25-21
Week 3 Matchup: @ Washington Redskins (0-2)

-----

19. Tennessee Titans (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 22
Week 2 Result: Lost to Houston Texans 30-24
Week 3 Matchup: vs. San Diego Chargers (1-1)

-----

20. New York Giants (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 17
Week 2 Result: Lost to Denver Broncos 41-23
Week 3 Matchup: @ Carolina Panthers (0-2)

The Giants are not bad, but they are sure playing like it. Granted, they have played two of the better offenses in the NFL but this defense is worse then ever. New York also cannot run the football, meaning Eli Manning is going to have to out throw his opponents to win, and throwing four interceptions is not going to beat your older brother.

-----

21. New York Jets (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 24
Week 2 Result: Lost to New England Patriots 13-10
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Buffalo Bills (1-1)

It is a shame the Jets did not sign a decent quarterback to bridge the gap until Geno Smith is ready because they have a playoff caliber defense. New York gave the Patriots fits all night, and should do the same to EJ Manuel this weekend.

-----

22. Indianapolis Colts (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 21
Week 2 Result: Lost to Miami Dolphins 24-20
Week 3 Matchup: @ San Francisco 49ers

While giving up a first round pick for the most easy to fill position in football is risky, I still like the move to add Trent Richardson. The Colts new GM continues to be very aggressive in adding talent. Richardson should be a bell cow back behind Andrew Luck, and really solidify a trouble position for the Colts.

-----

23. Minnesota Vikings (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 25
Week 2 Result: Lost to Chicago Bears 31-30
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Cleveland Browns (0-2)

-----

24. San Diego Chargers (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 27
Week 2 Result: Defeated Philadelphia Eagles 33-30
Week 3 Matchup: @ Tennessee Titans (1-1)

The Chargers defense is abysmal, but at least Philip Rivers looks rejuvinated. He will have to throw a ton all year with injuries and ineffictiveness plaguing the entire team.

-----

25. Buffalo Bills (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 28
Week 2 Result: Defeated Carolina Panthers 24-23
Week 3 Matchup: @ New York Jets (1-1)

-----

26. Carolina Panthers (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 23
Week 2 Result: Lost to Buffalo Bills 24-23
Week 3 Matchup: vs. New York Giants (0-2)

The Panthers and Cam Newton seem to really miss Rob Chudzinski. Ron Rivera has proven to be a mediocre head coach during his Panthers tenure and if Carolina continues to lose like this I think he could be the first head coach to lose his job this season.

-----

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 26
Week 2 Result: Lost to New Orleans Saints 16-14
Week 3 Matchup: @ New England Patriots (2-0)

First Josh Freeman has had major issues with the head coach, and now Derrelle Revis. After two heartbreaking losses, Greg Schiano could be in danger of losing this locker room.

-----

28. Cleveland Browns (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 29
Week 2 Result: Lost to Baltimore Ravens 14-6
Week 3 Matchup: @ Minnesota Vikings (0-2)

In trading Trent Richardson, the Browns have basically given up on the season before it even started. Cleveland's offense had already been struggling badly to generate points, and now they have no running back to speak of. GM Mike Lombardi has two first round picks, and the Browns will hope to make them count, probably in the form of a new franchise quarterback.

-----

29. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 30
Week 2 Result: Lost to Cincinnati Bengals 20-10
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Chicago Bears (2-0)

It is rare to see a Pittsburgh Steelers team struggle like this, but the sad fact is they are just overmatched on the field. Pittsburgh has no running game and little in the way of pass catchers other then Emmanuel Sanders.

-----

30. Washington Redskins (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 20
Week 2 Result: Lost to Green Bay Packers 38-20
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Detroit Lions (1-1)

Looking at the stats, the Redskins have piled up a ton of yards, but most of that is due to the fact that they have been down big time in both of their games. Robert Griffin III is really struggling, but he is only about 8 months removed from reconstructive knee surgery. He will get his confidence and footing back and the Redskins will be alright. This is still a very winnable division.

-----

31. Oakland Raiders (1-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 31
Week 2 Result: Defeated Jacksonville Jaguars 19-9
Week 3 Matchup: @ Denver Broncos

The Raiders have been competitive, but I would like to see it against a better team before I move them up in the rankings. As far as I am concerned they are still terrible and will win 2 to 4 games. Beating Jacksonville at home hardly counts as a win.

-----

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 32
Week 2 Result: Lost to Oakland Raiders 19-9
Week 3 Matchup: @ Seattle Seahawks

The Jaguars are awful. So awful that I am convinced they are starring in a new football version of the movie Major League. The team is so bad that no one will buy tickets. The helmets are so hideous that no one will buy merchandise. Here we come, Los Angeles. There is no Roger Dorn or Rick Vaughn coming through that door to save the Jaguars. Perhaps Teddy Bridgewater.
