2011 NFL Mock Draft - Week 7

Top ten picks analysis. At this point I would not be surprised if both Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett fell out of the first round. Locker predictably left a ton of money on the table by returning for his senior year, and quarterbacks often fall on draft day. With so few teams wanting to take a rookie quarterback, teams can afford to let them slip.

Yes, I have nearly 1/3 of the first round selections being cornerbacks. There is a run every year. It's a pass happy league now, there are few teams in the NFL who couldn't really use an upgrade in the secondary.

Starting next week I will use the unofficial "if the draft was today" draft order.

1. Buffalo Bills - QB Andrew Luck, Stanford. No brainier, no explanation needed. Has to happen. Don't let Ryan Fitzpatrick's stats fool you. It's still Ryan Fitzpatrick.

2. Carolina Panthers - DE Da'Quan Bowers, Clemson. Panthers can go any direction here. They have holes all over the place. Bowers is a physical freak who has put it all together this year, leading the nation in sacks and tackles for loss. He's a Carolina guy and might give the fans a little reason for optimism.

3. San Francisco 49ers - CB Patrick Peterson, LSU. The Niners don't have the holes a team picking in the top five usually has. The quarterbacks after Luck have too many question marks to be picked this high. Nate Clements is nickleback caliber at this point in his career.

4. Arizona Cardinals - DE/OLB Robert Quinn, North Carolina. The Cardinals have failed to generate much of a pass rush from their linebackers, something a 3-4 team needs of course. It's hard to tell how good Quinn is since he might not play all year, but he has the skills to be a fine OLB in this system.

5. Cleveland Browns - WR AJ Green, Georgia. This would be a dream scenario for the Browns for Green to fall to number five. . Give new starter Colt McCoy a 6'4 stud to throw to and the Browns might finally be on to something.

6. Detroit Lions - CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska. The Lions have had good success with their Nebraska rookie, so they go that direction again. The secondary seriously lacks talent and is being exposed on a weekly basis.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - CB Brandon Harris, Miami. The Jaguars secondary is an absolute joke. Brandon Harris would be a major reach here, but they reached for Tyson Alualu last year, so they have no problem reaching for a player they want.

8. Denver Broncos - DE Marcell Dareus, Alabama. The Broncos are one of many teams who have switched to a 3-4 defense but lack the proper parts to make the engine run smoothly. And I was saying this before the Raiders bent Denver over and ran all through them.

9. St. Louis Rams - DT Nick Fairley, Auburn. Fairley may be the best player in college football this year, and his amazing performance has the Tigers talking National Championship. The Rams passed up on a defensive tackle last year, which was the right move, but they could use a playmaker at the position.

10. Dallas Cowboys - DE Allen Bailey, Miami. Last week I said I didn't think the Cowboys would be picking this high, but now it looks like they could. It is a good draft to replace aging ends Marcus Spears and Igor Olshansky.

11. Cincinnati Bengals - DE Adrian Clayborn, Iowa
12. Chicago Bears - OT Derek Sherrod, Mississippi St.
13. New England Patriots (from Oakland Raiders) - RB Mark Ingram, Alabama
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DE Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue
15. Washington Redskins - WR Julio Jones, Alabama
16. San Diego Chargers - WR Jonathan Baldwin, Pittsburgh
17. Minnesota Vikings - CB Ras-I Dowling, Virginia
18. Miami Dolphins - CB Aaron Williams, Texas
19. Houston Texans - CB Janoris Jenkins, Florida
20. New England Patriots - DE Cameron Heyward, Ohio St.
21. Seattle Seahawks - QB Jake Locker, Washington
22. New Orleans Saints - DE/OLB Akeem Ayers, UCLA
23. Kansas City Chiefs - QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas
24. Tennessee Titans - OLB Travis Lewis, Oklahoma
25. Philadelphia Eagles - OLB Bruce Carter, North Carolina
26. Green Bay Packers - OLB Justin Houston, Georgia
27. Indianapolis Colts - OT Anthony Castonzo, Boston College
28. New York Jets - DE/DT Cameron Jordan, California
29. Atlanta Falcons - CB Brandon Burton, Utah
30. Baltimore Ravens - CB Jimmy Smith, Colorado
31. New York Giants - MLB Greg Jones, Michigan St.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers - OT Nate Solder, Colorado

25% of the 1st round picks being CBs seems a bit high. Are all these guys really first round talent? What separates the last 2 from the next 6 or so? The Ravens in particular are known for not reaching in the draft just to fill the position with the greatest need. (I'm a Ravens fan btw) For instance, in the 2009 draft, the Ravens jumped up and took Michael Oher with Hakeem Nicks and Vontae Davis still on the board. Those guys were more areas of need for the team, but the value of Oher that low was too much for Ozzie Newsome to pass up.

No one is perfect in making mocks. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything, just trying to help you out as far as a team that I know about.

Naah definitely not a jerk. I'm a Dolphins fan, so the Aaron Williams pick is the one I am most sure about, since I've seen all their games. I would love to have fans of the other 31 teams tell me who they'd like to see their teams get.

Thanks for the feedback!
