2013 NFL Power Rankings: Week 4

A day late, but I tried to make this worth reading this week, so here you go!
-----

1. Seattle Seahawks (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 1
Week 3 Result: Defeated Jacksonville Jaguars 45-17
Week 4 Matchup: @ Houston Texans (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: MLB Bobby Wagner. 24 tackles, 1 INT. It is hard to pick one player from a defense that is completely dominating right now, but I will go with the middle linebacker. Wagner had a fantastic rookie season and has only gotten better. The Seahawks defense has only allowed 9 points per game, and they were up 38-7 before calling the dogs off, allowing the Jaguars to score a few garbage points.

-----

2. Denver Broncos (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 2
Week 3 Result: Defeated Oakland Raiders 37-21
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Philadelphia Eagles (1-2)

Dynamic Performer: QB Peyton Manning. 1143 yards, 12 TD, 0 INT. Manning has put up some college type numbers through three games. He has been in complete control of his offense, and may have the most talented set of skill players in the NFL. Expect more fireworks against the Eagles porous secondary.

-----

3. New Orleans Saints (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 7
Week 3 Result: Defeated Arizona Cardinals 31-7
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Miami Dolphins

Dynamic Performer: DC Rob Ryan. I had to give the award to the Saints new defensive coordinator. What he has done through three weeks has been nothing short of a miracle. The Saints are fourth in the NFL in yards allowed and fifth in points allowed. It is very early of course, but the New Orleans defense was historically bad last season. A ton of credit for the Saints hot start has to go to the coaching.

-----

4. Chicago Bears (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 6
Week 3 Result: Defeated Pittsburgh Steelers 40-23
Week 4 Matchup: @ Detroit Lions (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: RB Matt Forte. 225 yards, 2 TD, 18 rec, 138 yards. The Bears offense is off to a good start, and Forte has been at the center of it all. A good runner and one of the best receiving backs in the NFL, he could generate some MVP consideration if the Bears continue to win.

-----

5. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 9
Week 3 Result: Defeated Houston Texans 30-9
Week 4 Matchup: @ Buffalo BIlls

Dynamic Performer: LB Daryl Smith. 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 INT. There is a reason Ozzie Newsome is the best in the business. Smith was picked up off the free agent scrap heap, and has quickly taken over for Ray Lewis as the quarterback of the defense. The Ravens defense has really stepped up after the week 1 blitz of Denver, and Smith is one of the reasons why.

-----

6. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 11
Week 3 Result: Defeated Philadelphia Eagles 26-16
Week 4 Matchup: vs. New York Giants (0-3)

Dynamic Performer: OLB Justin Houston. 16 tackles, 7.5 sacks. Houston was considered a first wound talent coming out of Georgia a couple years ago, but fell to the third round due to off the field concerns. He has kept his nose clean, and all he has done is become the third fastest player to accumulate 20 sacks. Only Derrick Thomas and Jared Allen has accomplished the feat faster. Interestingly enough, those two were also former Chiefs. He is a perfect fit for KC's 3-4 attack, and a major reason the Chiefs are 3-0.

-----

7. Cincinnati Bengals (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 8
Week 3 Result: Defeated Green Bay Packers 34-30
Week 4 Matchup: @ Cleveland Browns (1-2)

Dynamic Performer: WR AJ Green. 19 rec, 249 yards, 3 TD. Green may not have the best statistics, but he is a dynamic performer in every sense of the word. His presence will allow other talented players to get open looks. Once guys like Tyler Eifert, Mohamed Sanu and Giovani Bernard gain more seasoning, Green should get a few more open looks. I think behind Calvin Johnson, he is the second most talented receiver in the NFL.

-----
8. New England Patriots (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 13
Week 3 Result: Defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-3
Week 4 Matchup: @ Atlanta Falcons

Dymanic Performer: DE Chandler Jones. 14 tackles, 3 sacks. The Patriots have been playing well on the defensive side of the ball, and that is probably why they are 3-0. Chandler Jones, Aqib Talib and Jerod Mayo have been impressive, going up against three weak offenses. We will see if the Pats defense has really improved when they go against the Falcons.

-----

9. San Francisco 49ers (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 3
Week 3 Result: Lost to Indianapolis Colts 27-7
Week 4 Matchup: @ St. Louis Rams (1-2)

Dynamic Performer: OLB Aldon Smith. 17 tackles, 3.5 sacks. The NFL is a delicate flower. Any team can wilt and fall apart at any time. The Niners were amazing on paper, but three weeks through the season we see that they seriously lack a play maker on offense, and now their best defensive player will be out for a while due to off the field problems. Smith is a monster on the field, and hopefully he can get his addictions in check, because he has Hall of Fame potential.

-----

10. Green Bay Packers (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 4
Week 3 Result: Lost to Cincinnati Bengals (34-30)
Week 4 Matchup: Bye

Dynamic Performer: QB Aaron Rodgers. 1057 passing yards, 8 TD, 3 INT. Rodgers has been as good as ever. He has to be, as Packers are dropping like flies on both sides of the ball. Green Bay will struggle to stop teams every week, so it is up to Rodgers to continue to sling the ball up and down the field and pile up yards. He has thrown the ball 40 times per game and that trend could continue all season.

-----

11. Dallas Cowboys (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 15
Week 3 Result: Defeated St. Louis Rams 31-7
Week 4 Matchup: @ San Diego Chargers (1-2)

Dynamic Performer: QB Tony Romo. 771 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT. The Cowboys still players are off to a very strong start, and Romo is leading the way. He has completed 72% of his passes and has spread the wealth to Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, DeMarco Murray and Jason Witten equally. The Cowboys could run away with the division if Romo can display some consistency.

-----

12. Houston Texans (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 5
Week 3 Result: Lost to Baltimore Ravens 30-9
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Seattle Seahawks

Dynamic Performer: DE JJ Watt. 17 tackles, 3 sacks. Watt has picked up where he left off last year, getting to the quarterback and chasing down ball carriers. He is the NFL's version of a triple double, stuffing the stat sheet. He already has 3 passes deflected as well.

-----

13. Miami Dolphins (3-0)
Previous Power Ranking: 12
Week 3 Result: Defeated Atlanta Falcons 27-23
Week 4 Matchup: @ New Orleans Saints (3-0)

Dynamic Performer: WR Brian Hartline. 18 rec, 238 yards, 2 TD. The Dolphins offense is playing well, especially Ryan Tannehill. But no one has been as consistent as Hartline, who simply catches everything thrown at him. Plenty of people scoffed at his contract extension, but he has proven to be worth it so far.

-----

14. Indianapolis Colts (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 22
Week 3 Result: Defeated San Francisco 49ers 27-7
Week 4 Matchup: @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3)

Dynamic Performer: QB Andrew Luck. 663 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT. Luck is the best young quarterback in the NFL, and could already be in the top ten at his position. He has the poise and leadership of a ten year veteran. As good as Peyton Manning continues to be, the Colts made the right choice by moving on with Luck. Unfortunately, his talent might fly under the radar as the Colts are committed to an old school, running attack. In the era of inflated offenses numbers, Luck might end up with a 3000 yard, 20 TD, 5 INT season.

-----

15. Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 8
Week 3 Result: Lost to Miami Dolphins 27-23
Week 3 Matchup: @ Miami Dolphins (2-0)

Dynamic Performer: WR Julio Jones. 27 rec, 373 yards, 2 TD. With Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez struggling to create any separation, Matt Ryan has looked to his talented stud Julio Jones early and often. Jones is next to unguardable. A very strong 6'4, 220 pound machine with great hands and good speed, Jones will be force fed the ball all season as the Falcons hope to hang on as injuries build up.

-----

16. Tennessee Titans (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 19
Week 3 Result: Defeated San Diego Chargers 20-17
Week 4 Matchup: vs. New York Jets

Dynamic Performer: QB Jake Locker. 572 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT. The Titans have several good performers but no one who has really stood out thus far. Jake Locker had his best game as a professional as the Titans took down the Chargers. He displayed a strong arm, good decision making and some great wheels. If he can play like this more often, the Titans could really have something.

-----

17. New York Jets (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 21
Week 3 Result: Defeated Buffalo Bills 27-20
Week 3 Matchup: @ Tennessee Titans (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: Jets Defense. The Jets are in the top ten in almost all defensive categories. No one stands out at this time, but New York has serious potential, especially with their young front seven. Sheldon Richarson in particular is off to a fantastic start. The Jets defense will have to win them games until Geno Smith progresses.

-----

18. Detroit Lions (2-1)
Previous Power Ranking: 18
Week 3 Result: Defeated Washington Redskins 27-20
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Chicago Bears

Dynamic Performer: WR Calvin Johnson. 17 rec, 268 yards, 3 TD. Johnson is off to another hot start this year. He is turning some of his receptions into touchdowns, and his presence has allowed Nate Burleson to really start off strong. Unfortunately Burleson is injured now, so even more pressure will fall on Megatron's shoulders.

-----

19. Carolina Panthers (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 26
Week 3 Result: Defeated New York Giants 38-0
Week 4 Matchup: Bye

Dynamic Performer: DE Greg Hardy. 15 tackles, 3 sacks. The Panthers have only allowed 12 points per game this season. They have a very talented front seven on defense and the dynamic performer could go to a few players. I went with Greg Hardy, who has off to a great start to his career after falling in the draft due to injury concerns. He was long considered a first round pick and he is showing why, with his all around game. He can stop the run and rush the passer.

-----

20. St. Louis Rams (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 14
Week 2 Result: Lost to Dallas Cowboys 31-7
Week 4 Matchup: vs. San Francisco 49ers

Dynamic Performer: DE Robert Quinn. 11 tackles, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles. It has been a slow start for the Rams, but Quinn has definitely done his part. Coming off a strong 2012, he has picked right up where he left off. His 4 sacks are third best in the NFL and he has already forced three fumbles, a league best.

-----

21. Philadelphia Eagles (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 17
Week 3 Result: Lost to Kansas City Chiefs 26-16
Week 4 Matchup: @ Denver Broncos

Dynamic Performer: RB LeSean McCoy. 395 rushing yards, 2 TD. McCoy has been a great fit for Chip Kelly's offense. He leads the NFL with 395 rushing yards, with well over 300 of those yards in Weeks 1 and 3. Week 2 he was held to 58 yards rushing but grabbed 5 passes for 114 yards, remaining a huge part of the Eagles offense.

-----

22. San Diego Chargers (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 24
Week 3 Result: Lost to Tennessee Titans 20-17
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Dallas Cowboys (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: QB Philip Rivers. 798 yards, 8 TD, 1 INT. The Chargers are a bad team with little in the way of play makers on either side of the ball, but it is good to see that Rivers has bounced back in a big way. He has had to fling the ball all over the field and 1 interception through three games is very un-Rivers like. The Chargers could very easily be 3-0.
-----

23. Arizona Cardinals (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 16
Week 3 Result: Lost to New Orleans Saints 31-7
Week 4 Matchup: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3)

Dynamic Performer: S Tyrann Mathieu. 23 tackles, 1 INT. The Cardinals are underperforming like usual, but Mathieu is a definite bright spot. He is a big time play maker who flies all over the field to make tackles. If he can stay out of trouble, he will be one of the better draft day steals in recent memory.

-----

24. Minnesota Vikings (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 23
Week 3 Result: Lost to Cleveland Browns 31-27
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Dynamic Performer: RB Adrian Peterson. 281 yards, 3 TD. Peterson has only averaged 4.1 yards per carry, and that is with a 78 yard run sprinkled in, but he is doing a great job considering how bad Christian Ponder is. Leslie Frazier is going to run him into the ground this year, because there are little options for Minnesota right now.

-----

25. Buffalo Bills (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 25
Week 3 Result: Lost to New York Jets 27-20
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Baltimore Ravens (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: LB Kiko Alonso. 27 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT. Alonso is off to a very hot start and is the very early leader for DPOY honors. He is all over the place and among the league leaders in tackles, and has even intercepted a couple of passes.

-----

26. Cleveland Browns (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 28
Week 3 Result: Defeated Minnesota Vikings 31-27
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Cincinnati Bengals (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: TE Jordan Cameron. 20 rec, 269 yards, 3 TD. Cameron was probably the most popular fantasy sleeper at tight end, and through three weeks that is right on point. He is a big, strong target, who unlike guys like Greg Little, can actually catch what is thrown to him.

-----

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 27
Week 3 Result: Lost to New England Patriots 23-3
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Arizona Cardinals (1-2)

Dynamic Performer: RB Doug Martin. 297 rushing yards, 1 TD. As Josh Freeman continues to implode, Coach Greg Schiano will feed Martin until he falls over in an effort to save his own job. Martin is second in the NFL with 297 rushing yards, and has already carried the ball 73 times in 3 games. Opponents are stacking the box daring Freeman to throw, and as a result Martin has only averaged 4.1 yards per carry.

-----

28. New York Giants (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 20
Week 3 Result: Lost to Carolina Panthers 38-0
Week 4 Matchup: @ Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)

Dynamic Performer: WR Victor Cruz. 16 rec, 261 yards, 3 TD. It was hard to find a dynamic performer, as the Giants have hardly put up a fight all year. At least Victor Cruz has some pride and is trying to earn his paycheck. That was until his effort in Carolina, where he seemed to give up along with the rest of the Giants. This could finally be the year that Tom Coughlin moves on. That or they squeak into the playoffs and end up beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

-----

29. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 29
Week 3 Result: Lost to Chicago Bears 40-23
Week 4 Matchup: @ Minnesota Vikings (0-3)

Dynamic Performer: WR Antonio Brown. 20 rec, 324 yards, 2 TD. It has been a very tough start for the Steelers, and Brown in particular before he complained about his lack of touches. Like Mike Wallace the week before, he stepped up and put up a huge day after demanding the football, including one of the best touchdown catches you will ever see. He will have to continue to perform, because this Steelers team just has no defense or running game right now.

-----

30. Washington Redskins (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 30
Week 3 Result: Lost to Detroit Lions 27-20
Week 4 Matchup: @ Oakland Raiders

Dynamic Performer: RB Alfred Morris. 225 yards, 2 TD. Morris has proven to be the real deal. He is averaging 5.6 yards per carry on the year. Unfortunately the Redskins have been behind by so much all season they have had to abandon the run and throw all day long.

-----

31. Oakland Raiders (1-2)
Previous Power Ranking: 31
Week 3 Result: Lost to Denver Broncos 37-21
Week 4 Matchup: vs. Washington Redskins (0-3)

Dynamic Performer: QB Terrelle Pryor. 624 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT. 198 rushing yards. Pryor has definitely be fun to watch. Even though I do not think he will lead the Raiders to many wins now or in the long term, he is good enough that Oakland can focus on drafting other positions for a couple years and build up the NFL's worst roster before they are forced to draft a quarterback in the first round.

-----

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3)
Previous Power Ranking: 32
Week 3 Result: Lost to Seattle Seahawks 45-17
Week 3 Matchup: vs. Indianapolis Colts (2-1)

Dynamic Performer: WR Cecil Shorts. 19 rec, 276 yards. It is impossible to find the needle that is the dynamic performer in Jacksonville's haystack, but Shorts probably comes the closest. He is one of the better young wide receivers in the NFL, and has managed almost 100 yards per game even with inept quarterback play.
